Paper: Custom Printed Greaseproof Sheets

Our prepress team prepares the printed proof from your file; the picture here is a placement guide.

What is a greaseproof sheet?

A greaseproof sheet is paper with grease hold-out built in at the mill. The fibers are beaten tight and sized hard, so fat beads on the surface instead of soaking through.

There is no wax on it. That matters under a heat lamp, where a waxed sheet goes clear and sticky while a greaseproof one stays dry and matte.

Every paper in this range arrives cut to size, printed flat and packed in counted stacks. The four differ in surface, weight and the job they were cut for, not in the barrier.

Which greaseproof sheet for which job?

Buyers ask for burger paper and mean three different things. The table sorts the range by the job each sheet was made for, with the weight we usually quote.

If you wrap and line from one stack, the burger sheet does both jobs. If the paper is mostly decoration on a board, the textured sheet earns its place. Our sheet sizes by food guide goes item by item.

How does a greaseproof sheet behave with hot food?

Fold a hot burger in a grease-resistant sheet and the fat collects on the inside face. It stays there through a hold under the lamp. Steam is the thing to watch: a sealed wrap traps it and the bun goes limp, so most kitchens leave the ends loose.

Sauce is harder than fat. A thin mayonnaise can creep along a fold line on a light sheet, which is why burger wrap paper runs a little heavier than the plain sheet.

Oven-safe grades handle up to 400°F in typical use. The same stock lines a sheet pan for roasted vegetables or a slice going back in to reheat.

What size sheet do I need?

Measure the item, not the plate. A wrap wants 2 to 3 inches past the food on each side for the fold. A liner should cover the basket base and climb the sides by an inch.

  • 10 × 10.75 in: a single burger, a breakfast sandwich, a slice of cake on a tray
  • 12 × 12 in: the all-round pick for a double burger, a wrap or a half sub
  • 12 × 16 in: a footlong, a full basket of wings, a bread basket for the table
  • 15 × 15 in and 16 × 24 in: platters, family boxes and sheet pans

Greaseproof basket liners are cut from the same stock, so a fry basket and a sandwich can share one case and one print plate.

Smooth white, kraft or textured?

White stock gives the brightest print and the cleanest contrast under cold display light. Kraft hides a grease spot better and photographs warmer, which is why food trucks lean toward it.

The textured sheet has a mottled grain that looks like old parchment. One-color art in a dark ink reads as deliberate on it. Fine type under 8 pt fills in on the grain, so keep the logo bold and the tagline short.

A bakery box, a charcuterie board or a loaf for a market table is where textured greaseproof paper earns its small premium. A burger does not need it.

How do greaseproof sheets print?

Soy and water-based inks go onto the parent sheet before cutting, so the ink sits in the fiber rather than on a coating. One color on kraft is the safest spend: it prints sharp and reorders without a color argument.

A step-and-repeat pattern forgives any fold. A single centered logo looks sharper on a liner but has to sit where the food will not cover it. Pantone solid-coated references give us a target; expect a shade warmer on kraft.

Mistakes to avoid with greaseproof sheets

Ordering the burger size for the basket. A 12 × 12 in sheet covers a basket base but leaves the corners bare, and fries stick to the wire.

Picking the lightest sheet to save on weight, then wrapping sauced chicken in it. The sheet holds; the fold does not.

Printing a four-color photo on kraft. The brown shows through every pale tone. Use white for photos and kraft for line art.

How do I order greaseproof sheets?

  1. Tell us the item, the size you think you need, and roughly how many sheets you go through in a week.
  2. We reply with a written quote within one business day, naming the weight and stock we recommend.
  3. Approve the quote and send artwork. A free design proof shows the sheet at scale with cut lines.
  4. Edit the proof as often as you like. Nothing prints until you sign it off.
  5. Printing takes 4 to 6 business days, then free tracked delivery to US addresses in 2 to 3 business days.

The minimum is 1,000 sheets of one size. Ask for a stock sample on the written quote request form if you want to feel the weight first.

10 questions

Should a sandwich shop pick plain greaseproof sheets or burger wrap paper?

Plain printed sheets for cold sandwiches and wraps; burger wrap paper for anything hot with sauce.

When is textured greaseproof paper the better choice than smooth white?

When the paper shows on a board, in a box or on a market table.

Can one sheet size work as both a burger wrap and a basket liner?

A 12 × 16 in sheet does both. It folds around a large burger with room to spare and covers a standard fry basket, so one case serves the whole line.

Do basket liners need a heavier weight than wrap sheets?

Usually not. A liner lies flat and is lifted out, so about 25 to 35 lb is enough.

Which greaseproof sheet holds up best under a heat lamp?

Any of the four, because none is waxed. The burger wrap paper stays the driest to the touch, as its heavier base absorbs steam without going soft.

Is kraft or white stock better for a fried chicken basket?

Kraft. Chicken leaves a visible grease shadow on white within minutes, while kraft hides it.

Will a textured kraft sheet print as sharply as a smooth sheet?

Not quite. The grain softens fine lines and small type, so we advise bold logos and nothing under 8 pt.

Which sheet in this range suits a pizza slice or flatbread?

The plain printed sheet at 12 × 12 in for a slice, or 12 × 16 in for a flatbread.

Can I order two sheet sizes in one print run to share a plate?

Yes, when both sizes use the same artwork and stock. We lay them out on the same parent sheet, so the plate cost is paid once and each size still meets the 1,000-sheet minimum.

Should a basket liner carry a full repeat or a single centered logo?

A repeat, if the basket is full. Food covers the middle of the liner, so a single logo vanishes under the fries.
